In today's lighting field, LED outdoor lights have become the first choice for many outdoor lighting scenarios due to their many advantages such as high efficiency and energy saving, long life, and rich colors. However, it is not easy to choose the most suitable LED outdoor lights for different application scenarios.
1. Clarify the needs of application scenarios
Different outdoor scenes have different needs for lighting. For example, parks and gardens need to create a warm and romantic atmosphere, emphasizing soft and uniform lighting to highlight the beauty of plants and landscapes; while roads and parking lots pay more attention to the brightness and coverage of lighting to ensure the safe passage of pedestrians and vehicles.
For sports venues, such as basketball courts and football fields, high brightness and good color rendering are required to clearly see the movements of objects and people. In commercial areas, such as pedestrian streets and outdoor parts of shopping malls, lighting must not only meet basic brightness requirements, but also attract customers and enhance the business atmosphere through unique designs.
2. Pay attention to the performance parameters of lamps
Brightness and luminous flux
Brightness is an important indicator to measure the lighting effect of lamps. Generally speaking, public areas such as roads and squares require higher brightness, while private courtyards and leisure areas can choose relatively lower brightness according to personal preference. Luminous flux reflects the total amount of light emitted by the lamp, and the unit is lumens (lm).
For example, a 1000-lumen LED outdoor light may appear too bright in a small courtyard, but may not be enough in a large parking lot.
Color temperature
The color temperature determines the color effect of the light. Lower color temperatures (such as 2700K - 3000K) present warm yellow light, which is suitable for creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere and is often used in courtyards and residential areas; higher color temperatures (such as 5000K - 6000K) are cool white light with high clarity and visual contrast, suitable for roads and work areas.
Imagine that on a cold winter night, warm yellow light illuminates your own courtyard, which will give people a warm sense of home; while on the highway, cool white light allows drivers to see the road conditions more clearly.
Color rendering index
The color rendering index (CRI) indicates the ability of light to restore the true color of objects. The higher the color rendering index, the closer the color of an object under light is to its color under natural light. For scenes that require accurate color recognition, such as art exhibition areas and sports venues, lamps with a higher color rendering index (CRI ≥ 80) should be selected.
For example, in the outdoor area of an art gallery, if the color rendering index of the lamp is low, the color of the exhibits will be distorted, affecting the viewing experience.
Protection level
Due to the complex outdoor environment, lamps need to have good protection performance. The protection level is usually expressed by IP (Ingress Protection), for example, IP65 means dustproof and water sprayproof. If the lamp is installed in a humid and rainy area, a product with a higher protection level should be selected to prevent water damage inside the lamp.
For example, coastal areas are often attacked by sea breezes and rain, and the LED outdoor lights installed there must have a higher protection level.
3. Types and designs of lamps
Street lamps
Street lamps usually require high brightness, long life and good light distribution to illuminate the road and reduce blind spots. Common street lamp designs include cantilever, column and wall-mounted, which can be selected according to the width and layout of the road.
Landscape lights
Landscape lights have various designs, including floor lights, wall lights, spotlights, etc., which are used to highlight landscape elements such as trees, buildings, sculptures, etc. Their shape and color should be coordinated with the surrounding environment to enhance the overall aesthetic effect.
For example, in classical gardens, landscape lights with Chinese style can be selected; while in modern parks, simple and stylish designs may be more suitable.
Garden lights
Garden lights focus on creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere, with various styles, including simple modern style and retro European style. The height and brightness can be adjusted according to the size and function of the courtyard.
Wall lights and wall washers
Wall lights can be used to illuminate the walls of buildings and increase the three-dimensional sense; wall washers can evenly illuminate the walls and create unique light and shadow effects.
Fourth, consider energy saving and environmental protection
Choosing energy-efficient LED outdoor lights can not only reduce energy consumption, but also reduce long-term operating costs. At the same time, pay attention to whether the materials of the lamps are environmentally friendly and whether they conform to the concept of sustainable development.
